ScotBio ready to launch SupaBlu™ – a heat-stable natural blue colourant

ScotBio is pleased to present SupaBlu™ to market; a heat-stable natural blue food colourant, suitable as an alternative for artificial Brilliant blue FCF in various food and beverage applications.

ScotBio SupaBlu™ HS is a blue pigment specially formulated from Spirulina extract and other vegan, FDA & EFSA-approved food excipients, producing a water-soluble, vivid blue colourant with superior heat-stability versus other natural blues. This makes the product ideal for food & beverage applications which utilise a thermal process, such as pasteurisation, baking or syrup-heating in sweet-making.

ScotBio SupaBlu™ HS’s enhanced heat stability provides superior performance in ice creams, milkshakes, gummies, juices, cakes and various other applications where high temperature processing is needed. SupaBlu™ HS can also be used to create green hues by combining with yellow colourants, such as turmeric.

ScotBio produces its own Spirulina extract from microalgae grown in state-of-the-art reactor systems at the company’s new production facility in Livingston, Scotland. Using patented cultivation techniques, Spirulina is intensively and hygienically grown in a closed loop-system, allowing unparalleled quality and productivities.
